Two months after a 72-year-old nun of a convent at Ranaghat in Nadia district of West Bengal was gang-raped, the CID arrested two main accused in connection with the case on Thursday night.
The CID nabbed Milan Sarkar and Ahidul Islam Babu from Sealdah station. They will be produced in Ranaghat court on Friday and the CID is likely to pray for CID custody of the accused.
Earlier, CID had made two arrests in connection with the case, while the main accused were still at large.
On March 14, the nun was gang-raped in the wee hours of the night. Some miscreants broke into the Convent of Jesus and Mary at Ranaghat in Nadia district and looted as many as Rs 12 lakhs.
When the sister superior of the convent tried to resist them, she was allegedly gang-raped. The dacoits tied up the security guard and then went on a rampage inside the convent.
Taking no chances, the state government was quick to react. The West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee immediately ordered a CID probe into the case.
